E.F., age 81 - E.F.'s closest friend had attended an event where she heard Jane Lorenz and Marguerite Lorenz speak on the topic of successful estate plans. E.F.'s friend recognized that working with these ladies might be very helpful for E.F. E.F. had become increasingly confused and had begun to have some difficulty communicating in social situations.
The friend introduced E.F. to Marguerite. E.F. and Marguerite began the process of getting to know each other. Marguerite suggested that E.F. call her attorney and let him know that E.F. was interested in Marguerite's services as trustee. E.F. and her attorney met a couple of times before meeting with Marguerite. In this case, E.F.'s attorney was signed on as E.F.'s agent for healthcare.
Initially E.F. lived in her own apartment with little assistance. Over time, it became clear that E.F. needed to give up driving and that she needed some help with the medical care system. A professional care manager was hired to attend doctor visits with E.F. and to help E.F. accept the medical care needed to help her with her dementia symptoms.
E.F. continues to enjoy good physical health and as much independence as possible, given her increasing communication difficulty. She now lives in a nicely appointed dementia care facility, in her own "apartment", but continues to have her own advocate, her own caregiver and the opportunity to go out shopping and visiting on a regular basis.
There is added comfort for E.F. at night, as the facility she lives in provides appropriate supervision, attention and medical care for her as needed. The team of support E.F. has makes sure she gets to keep her independence.
E.F. had been through a stressful and confusing period in her life until she got the help she needed. Marguerite continues to communicate with E.F.'s attorney and distant family as topics arise.
